Day 4.
I was up, packed, loaded and “breakfasted” and by 8:15 a.m. pulled out onto the road to catch VA 16.
My first experience with this road back in 2015 was on a very foggy and wet day, so I was looking forward to experiencing this same road today with the lovely bright and dry conditions that this day seemed to promise.
After fueling up at the corner of Main Street and VA 16, I turned northwards to continue my journey homewards.
All things being equal, I hoped to make it home sometime today before nightfall. I had 458 miles (733 km) to knock down.
So up, over and down the mountain I went, stopping as often as I cared to, to take photos and enjoy my surroundings and the lovely ride.
Twists and turns galore, the thrills were many.
Arriving finally in Bluefield, and with time to spare on this day, I stayed off the Interstate and opted for a lovely ride through all the little towns along the way between here and into West Virginia, well into the late afternoon.
I knocked the miles down, and an hour from home, I filtered myself back onto the Interstate and the ST “nailed it” the rest of the way back home. Seems like she knew how to find her way home without any inputs from me from here.
We’d been through here on quite a few other occasions.
So at 7:45 p.m., just before sundown, I pulled into my driveway at home with 64338 miles showing on the odometer it had been a 1507-mile (2411 km) ride - ONLY!
So In the absence of my summary of this trip, I hope my pictures will describe and tell you what kind of a trip I really had and how much I really enjoyed it.
With a prayer of thanks for my safe return, I unpacked the bike and looked forward to settling down for the night.
The phone rang.
It was my eldest daughter.
She had been marking time, keeping track of my progress along the way since lunchtime and timed me perfectly, knowing that I would be arriving home right around this time.
The roads had been lovely green and steep,
I had promises to keep
I traveled many miles in order to come home and sleep
And prayed the Lord my soul to keep.
